The Story of This Piece

This original Ercol Model 424 Double Headboard is a classic example of the company's mid-century furniture design. Made from solid elm, it features a broad, gently rounded headboard panel with beautifully figured natural wood grain and two wooden mounting supports.

The Model 424 appears in Ercol's original 1956 catalogue, where it was offered as a headboard for a 4 ft 6 in double divan bed. This establishes the design's historical origins, although the precise manufacturing date of this particular example is unconfirmed.

The original collection location is unknown. The headboard was professionally refinished at the Retro Cactus Furniture workshop in North Derbyshire, preserving the natural character of the elm.

It was subsequently sold through Vinterior and personally delivered by Retro Cactus Furniture to its new owner in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire.
