Set of four Ercol Model 333 Small Chairs, 1950s, in English elm and solid beech

The Story of This Piece

This set of four Ercol Model 333 Small Chairs dates from the 1950s. The design appears in Ercol’s 1956 catalogue, where Model 333 is described as the Small Chair. Its distinctive construction includes an unusually thick solid elm seat, deeply shaped for comfort, with the curved back and rails made in beech.

The chairs were collected from Kidderminster, Worcestershire and brought to our North Derbyshire workshop, where the set was refinished in the Retro Cactus finish while retaining the character of the original elm and beech.

They were later sold through Vinterior and delivered to Edinburgh, Scotland.

These photographs show the actual set handled and refinished by Retro Cactus Furniture.
